Gunpowder consists of 3 ingredients. 15% Charcoal, 75% Potassium Nitrate, and 10% Sulfur. Sulfur and charcoal act like gas or fuels and the potassium nitrate, or saltpeter, act as an oxidizer. Gunpowder reacts to oxygen, so when a lot of heat is applied, the gun powder explodes.
