Type 1 is the most common form of Gaucher disease. It occurs more frequently in people of Ashkenazi Jewish heritage than in people with other backgrounds. 1 out of every 500 to 1000 people with Ashkenazi Jewish descent are affected by this genetic disorder. The other forms of Gaucher disease are very uncommon, and do not occur more in people of the Ashkenazi Jewish descent.
