Why was it famous?

This case was obviously famous for it's brutality, lack of evidence, and countless dead end leads. The fact someone did this to another human being astonished the entire city of LA, and has scarred it to this day. There was never any certainty of who even might have done it, and there are still 10 suspects that may have committed the murder, decades after it occurred. At this point, there is little to no hope in convicting and putting the actual killer to proper justice, yet the search continues as modern forensics dig up more clues.
