While there are certain similarities between the carbon and nitrogen cycles, the phosphorus cycle is very different. This is due to P's chemically dissimilar nature compared to either C or N. A phosphorus atom,tends to originate from the weathering of phosphorus-rich rock. Most of this is transported from the land to a river and eventually is buried in ocean sediments without ever being used by the biosphere at all.
