In October 1962, the US gained access to pictures of nuclear weapons being developed in the Soviet Union. President Kennedy put a blockade around Cuba. He declared that if the Soviets put missiles in Cuba, they would be declaring nuclear war on the US. But both countries realized the devastation that could occur in the occurrence of a nuclear war. They came to the agreement that no missiles would be out in Cuba or Turkey. But even though the missiles were moved away, both countries continued to build their arsenal.
