Putnam says to Proctor, "I never heard you worried so on this society, Mr. Proctor. I do not think I saw you at Sabbath meeting since snow flew"(Miller 47).

Parris exclaims in a rage, "What, are we Quakers? We are not Quakers here yet, Mr. Proctor. And you may tell that to your followers!"(Miller 48).

John Proctor is not a very religious man and doesn't associate himself much with some of the people of Salem by not going to the Sabbaths meetings.

Proctor has a sense of power associated to him so much as that Parris believes that some people in Salem would rather have him lead them.
