"While the Battle for Sicily raged, President Roosevelt went fishing."

Did you know that Birch Island hosted President Roosevelt at the height of World War II?

From August 1-7, 1943 FDR indeed went fishing on Birch Island, just north of Manitoulin. Just weeks prior to the Quebec Conference where the outcome of the war was plotted on Canadian soil, Roosevelt, along with 31 Secret Service men and 17 RCMP officers sought peace and pike in tiny Birch Island.
