In 2007 Knox and Sollecito were charged with murdering and sexually assaulting Meredith, after she was found semi-naked and with her throat cut in the bedroom of her house in Perugia.

They were convicted in 2009 and Knox was sentenced to 26 years and Sollecito to 25 years, but in 2011, after an appeal the verdicts were overturned and both were allowed to go free.

Bar owner Patrick Lumumba was taken out of his house and arrested for the murder of Meredith Kercher. He was in jail for 2 weeks until police let him free when he had an alibi that he was at his bar the night of Meredith's murder.

Rudy Guede was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of Meredith Kercher. His sentence was reduced to 16 years on appeal and later confirmed by Italy's Supreme Court.
