Peripheral Nervous System

Divided in 2 subdivisions:

1. Sensory : sends signals to the CNS
receptors :
a. Somatic division : carries signals from receptors in the skins , muscles , bones and joints

b. Visceral : carries signals to the internal organs

2. Motor : transmit signals from CNS to effectors ( glands & muscles)
Effectors :
a.somatic carries signals to the skeletal muscles (voluntary)

b. Visceral: carries signals to glands ,cardiac muscle,smooth muscle(involuntary )

- sympathetic = tends to arouse the body to take action
-parasympathetic = tend to have a calming effect
