Predictions for Act 1
I predict John Proctor will butt heads with Parris throughout the Salem Witch trials.
I predict Rebecca Nurse will be accused of being a Witch, but she will not be hung or killed.
During the first act Parris and Proctor were arguing about holding meetings and such when Reverend Hale arrived. John Proctor and Parris see from different points of view, and during the Witch trials it will become more prominent. Parris started to believe that there was a party against him involving John Proctor, which may or may not be true. As for the concern of witchcraft, they both don't want a big deal to be made.
It was said that Rebecca nurse and the Putnam family had some issues in the past their families). Although Rebecca Nurse is looked at, as a good citizen, it won't take long before the girls start naming anyone and everyone they can think of. The issues between the Nurse's and Putnam's will decide the fate for Rebecca Nurse.
PARRIS, in a fury: What, are we Quakers? We are not Quakers here yet, Mr. Proctor. And you may tell that to your followers! PROCTOR: My followers!
(P.47)
It was Edward and Jonathan Putnam who signed the first complaint against Rebecca; and Thomas Putnam’s little daughter was the one who fell into a fit at the hearing and pointed to Rebecca as her attacker. To top it all, Mrs. Putnam —who is now staring at the bewitched child on the bed—soon accused Rebecca’s spirit of “tempting her to iniquity,” a charge that had more truth in it than Mrs. Putnam could know.
