THE LIFE OF ALEXANDER THE GREAT

Alexander the Great was the son of the king of Macedonia, Phillip ll of Macedon. Alexander watched his father make Macedonia a great military power. He proved how strong he was at age 12 when he tamed a wild stallion horse named Bucephalus. He would ride this horse into every battle until the horse died while invading India. At age 13 the Greek philosopher, Aristotle, was hired to tutor him until the age of 16. He taught him to respect the Greek way of life. Alexander's father conquered most of Greek city-states before Alexander got into power. The people hated his father for the way they were treated so they hated Alexander too. Unlike his father,Alexander allowed conquered people to manage there own city-states, as long as they were loyal to him. Alexander went on to conquer other cultures in the Mediterranean including Egypt. His empire would stretch all the way to the Indus River. He built over 70 cities and he never lost a battle. He died at the of 32 from a fever. After his death his empire was split by five of his generals.
