-The Javan Rhinoceros is currently listed as 'critically endangered' by the IUCN Red List and is thus one of the rarest land mammals in the world. Land use change from forests to farmland has been the most decisive factor in it's demise, and there are now fewer than 60 left in the world.
-The Giant Panda is currently listed as 'endangered' by the IUCN Red List and numbers of the species have considerably declined in recent decades due to ecological and anthropogenic pressure. The development of China and the subsequent urban-rural migration of much of the countries population, has resulted in the clearing of many forests, subsequently confining the Giant Panda to fragmented mountain habitats in Western China.
-The Mountain Gorilla has become critically endangered as a consequence of their natural habitat being deforested, predominantly for cattle ranching (Yamagiwa, 1993). This species is one of the most famous animals in the world, particularly because of David Attenborough's study of them early in his career. In order to conserve this species it is imperative that more is done to protect their habitat of the Congo Basin, as they rely on the indigenous bamboo for their survival, yet it is being continously removed from the area.
