Evangeline tells the story of the Acadian exile from modern day Nova Scotia. It follows a fiction Acadian girl, Evangeline, as she tries to find with her betrothed, Gabriel, after they became separated in the exile.

Evangeline is often very physically close to Gabriel, but they do not cross paths and find each other. This is a theme of feeling farther apart than one truly is from another.
