Katherine Anne Couric was born on January 7, 1957 in Arlington, Virginia. Her father was a public relations executive and a journalist and her mother was a part time professional writer. While in high school she was on the cheerleading squad and interned in news radio. She graduated from University of Virginia in 1979 with a degree in American Studies. After college she moved to Washington D.C. to begin her career.
