-On Aug. 17, 1807, the steamboat started on its first successful trip 150 miles up the Hudson River from New York City to Albany, in about 30 hours.

-Before the steam boat, people had to transport goods on flatboats and could only go down stream.

-It provided people and goods, to travel easier and quicker with more efficiency.
-We don't use steam engine boats anymore but we still use engine powered boats so we don't have to paddle.
