Smart phones in technology

Smart phones are handheld mobile phones also called Cell phones as they use cellular technology for communication. They are called smart because of their ability to do multiple things that were hard to imagine just a decade back.

Not only can they be used to talk with someone, but they can also be used as a small handheld computer. Today's technology allows one to play games, manage contacts, browse the internet, send text messages, manage bank accounts, schedule a TV recording and much much more.

Landline phones are almost a thing of the past. Back in those days when smart phones were not around, landline phones were widely used to communicate across continents but they did not have the ability to send an urgent text to someone or play Pacman or manage bank accounts.

Two examples of smart phones are
1. If someone gives a check which needs to be deposited, there is no more the need to go to a bank to deposit the same into your account. Your banking application will allow you to take the front and back photos of the check and have it deposited right into your account - All in a matter of minutes. Think of the time it takes you to drive to the bank, fill-up the deposit slip, wait in line for your turn with the teller and then show your driver's license, then have the check deposited to your account. All this plus the cost of gas to drive to your bank.

2. Second example would be tracking a flight in real time. If it is the holiday season and your relatives or friends are flying in from afar to visit you, rather than keep calling the airline to check on your flight's arrival, you could actually track the flight ahead of time to drive to the airport to pick themup. Again, in the absence of smart phones, you might end up reaching the airport and then find out that the flight is delayed by many hours - what then? Smart phones save us a lot of time in today's jet-age.
