Egyptian Religion
The Egyptians were monotheistic and believed in more than 700 gods and goddesses. Their religion and other traits were passed down to them- they never questioned what they were told by their relatives. May believed in Divine Kingship which meant that pharaoh was not only a leader but also a god. They believed pharaoh was associated with Horus who was the son of Re. They thought that once he died he turned into Osiris, who would help and protect those in the afterlife. Pharoah along with priests, were believed to be in change of the entire areas well being. So if the area was doing well, they credited the priests and pharaoh. If the area has doing bad, they blamed them. They also believed that their gods controlled nature, their lives, and believed them to have power over everything going on. Most would worship in their homes, others went to temples and even built shrines to worship their gods. They would offer food and drink to statues and left them at the feet of the statue calling it "spiritual nourishment". They might also bring clothing any perfumes to leave at the statue. There were also festivals and prayer groups involved for thanking the gods.
