President Lamar
Mirabeau B. Lamar was the second president of Texas. He was a big believer in public education, and that's why he is known as the father of education. He didn't want annexation with the U.S. but wanted to make Texas stretch to California. He did not like the Indians and wanted Indian Removal starting wars. He had a dept. of seven million dollars in economy when he was president. He created red backs which were worth nothin and helped increase the dept. He increased the Navy and Army to fight Indians and intimidate Mexico. He didn't really care for the relationship between Texas and Mexico considering that he was intimidating them with Texas military. When he became president he moved the capital to Austin Texas to not only centralize the capital but to name the capital after Stephen F. Austin. Sam Houston was reelected after Lamar.
