Henry Moore
Henry Spencer Moore was born in Castleford, Yorkshire on July 30, 1898. He was an English sculptor and artist and is best known for his semi-abstract sculptures that are displayed around the world as public works of art. Throughout his early life, he was very fascinated by art and was inspired by Michelangelo's achievements. When Moore turned eighteen, he joined the army and was injured in a gas attack. He received a grant to continue out his education when the war was over. In 1919 he became a student at the Leeds School of Art and succeeded well. Throughout the next few years, Moore received many achievements for his artwork. He because a teacher at an art school for a few years and met Irina Radetsky and were married. After World War Two and many miscarriages, Irina gave birth to their daughter, Mary Moore, in March of 1946. Moore began to focus his sculptures on family-like styles. His artwork began to be displayed around the world. As his wealth grew he began to worry about his legacy. With the help of his daughter, he set up the Henry Moore Trust in 1972, protecting his estate from death duties. Moore died on August 31, 1986 in his home in Much Hadham, Hertfordshire.
