Procedure followed

Step 1) Take your saucepan and fill it up with water.

Step 2) Put the saucepan on the hob and set it to a suitable temperature.

Step 3) Once water is hot place the egg in the saucepan.

Step 4) Leave egg in the water until you are confident it has cooked through.

Step 5) Remove egg from the water, place it in an eggcup and then leave it in the fridge for a long period of time to allow the egg to cool.

Step 6) After the egg has been left in the fridge for a long amount of time (we would recommend a couple hours), take it out of the fridge.

Step 6) Put the egg on a plate and begin to cut the egg in half, using the knife.

Step 7) Examine the egg.

Safety issues: A knife is sharp and dangerous. Boiling water can burn the skin. The hob is hot when on and contact with it would burn the skin.

We do not advise that you carry out this experiment without parental supervision.

Note* If you have successfully completed the seven simple steps you will notice that the inside of the cold egg resembles the layers of the Earth. The Earth's crust is like the shell, the outer layer that covers the surface. The egg white represents the mantle, the layer between the crust and the core. And finally the yolk of the egg resembles the Earth's core.
