Tay-sachs disease is caused as a recessive gene on chromosome 15.

Tay-sachs disease leads to deterioration of brain matter due to beta-hexosaminidase being disrupted by the gene. Because of the disruption HEXA can no longer break down GM2 ganglioside, which builds up to toxic levels.
