While in the University of Cambridge, he studied the structure of DNA.


In 1956, he accepted a position in the Biology department at Harvard.

He had a long association with Cold Spring Harbor Lab.

Watson made Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory one of the world's premier research facilities for cancer, neurobiology, and basic molecular genetics.
