The Olive Branch Petition
-A petition sent from the congress to George the 3rd trying to end the quarrel.
-He responded declaring that the colonies were open and avowed rebellion and called them traitors to justice.
-The quote that shows the colonies reaction is "the general confessed that he had long looked with some degree of horror on the scheme of separation" " we must independent are slaves".
Common Sense
-Thomas Paine published it
It says that "American trade had suffered under British control. Americans also had been hurt by being dragged into Britain's European wars and common sense could be the key to get out of British control.
- It was important because it persuaded thousands of people that independence was not only sensible but the key to a brighter future.
