Lauren Bacall was originally born Betty Joan Perske. She is known for her sultry looks, husky voice , successful modeling and acting career. She was the only daughter out of Mweish immigrants. Her father was a salesman while her mother was a secretary. When she was five her parents divorced which caused her to live with her mom.

Originally Bacall wanted to be a dancer, ht as time continued she became fascinated with acting . She studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. However during World War 11 she was in school. Living in New York allowed her to try her hand at acting with some small of braodway roles.

Howard Hawks wife discovered her and invited her in for a screen test. She excelled and received a role in "To Have and Have Not" .
