Religion in the Renaissance: The Catholic Reformation
The Catholic Reformation was the intellectual counter-force to Protestantism. The desire for reform in the Catholic Church had started well before the spread of Protestantism. On January 1st, 1517, Martin Luther nailed a list of complaints about the Catholic Church to the church doors. These complaints are now known as the 95 Theses. This sparked the Catholic Reformation, as a new form of Christianity started. It is known as Protestantism.
