The Beginning

Born Thomas Sterns Eliot in St. Louis Missouri on September 26,1988, T.S. Eliot grew up in a household with seven kids. His father, Henry Ware Eliot, who was president of Hydraulic- Press Brick Company, and his mother, Charlotte Champe Stearns, a former teacher and an energetic social work volunteer at the Humanity Club, were both successful and secure in their mid-forties. Eliot had a congenital double hernia and he was under constant surveillance by his mother and sister. His early influences were his Harvard professors renowned in poetry, philosophy, and literary criticism.
