February 18, 1934 – November 17, 1992

was a Caribbean-American writer, radical feminist and civil rights activist.

Lorde's poetry was published very regularly during the 1960s

Lorde considered herself a "lesbian, mother, warrior, poet,"

Audre Lorde battled cancer for fourteen years.

She wrote The Cancer Journals which in 1981 won the American Library Association Gay Caucus Book of the Year Award.
