Cobalt is derived from the German word Kobalt, which means "goblin" which is a term miners used for cobalt ore.

Cobalt today is used for making permanent magnets or some ceramic paints. Metal alloyed with cobalt can withstand high temperatures are used in gas turbine engines and for cutting and machining steel.

A few metals that Cobalt alloys with often are: Magalium, stellite, talonite, ultimet, and vitallium.

Cobalt's melting point is at 1495 degrees Celsius and Cobalt's boiling point is at 2870 degrees Celsius. Cobalt is similar to iron and nickel. Cobalt is found as a mixture of 2 allotropes over a wide temperature range.
