DECLINE AND CLOSURE

Much like the "Rust Belt" area of the US, Jamestown suffered great decline and loss of manufacturing in the late 20th century.

Mills, factories, plants, and supporting business closed by the dozens, devastating local economies.

However, modern Jamestown is reinventing itself as a center of culture and tourism in New York's Southern Tier.

Art Metal closed in 1971.
