Dallas Policeman Stops Oswald 12:32 p.m.
THIS IS MY STORY
About 45 minutes after the president was gunned down, Tippit tried to stop Oswald near 10th and Patton Street. Oswald shot him dead and fled to the Texas Theatre, where he was arrested after sneaking past a clerk and into the cinema.
At 6 p.m. Friday, the 50th anniversary of Tippit's death, the Dallas Police Department will hold a candlelight vigil to honor the fallen officer. Chief David Brown will speak as well as Marie Tippit, the officer's widow. The event will take place at his historical marker at 10th and Patton Streets in Oak Cliff. Oswald's killer, Jack Ruby, later spent his last weeks at Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he was diagnosed with cancer. He died of a blood clot in his lung on January 3, 1967. Rose also performed his autopsy.
