BARE BASICS

INSIDE AND OUT

STUDY

WHAT IS A BLACK HOLE?

It is a region of space-time from which gravity prevents anything, including light, from escaping (Wald, 1984).

Black holes are objects of infinite gravity and infinite density.

THEY ARE FOUND IN THE CENTER OF GALAXIES

HOW ARE THEY FORMED?

They are formed from the death of a massive star.

Nuclear Fusion

H and He Iron limit

HYPERNOVA

Black holes Gamma ray bursts

OUTSIDE THE BLACK HOLE

Black holes suck!!!

Once you cross the event horizon, you can never escape.

Spaghettification

Objects are stretched like spaghetti because of the different pull of force (Wheeler, 2007).

"Observers will never see an object get sucked into a black hole because light is trapped." - Hawking, 1996

INSIDE THE BLACK HOLE

"This is another word for scientists which means 'I don't know'."

the centre of a black hole where the gravity is thought to be infinite

SINGULARITY

Michio Kaku

INSIDE THE BLACK HOLE

Others believe in a "white hole" which is a matter blow-out that might've caused the Big Bang (Hamilton, 2001).

INSIDE THE BLACK HOLE

They could be portals to other parts of the universe which can make space-time travel possible (Thorne & Morris, 1988).

QUASARS

When the black hole consumes too much, they blow the excess gas out and shoot it in the form of quasars (Simonetti, n.d.).

QUASARS

The closest quasar to us (3C273) is 2 billion lightyears far. "Telescopes are time machines." Quasars are young galaxies

THE STUDY AND RESEARCH OF BLACK HOLES

Keck Observatory

NASA Swift Probe

CHANDRA Telescope

SWIFT: Gamma Ray Bursts

GBRs are the birth cries of black holes. There is at least one GBR per day.

KECK OBSERVATORY

Centers of galaxies are black holes

Stars are moving at 90% the speed of light.

Supermassive black holes hold galaxies together

CHANDRA Telescope

It detects quasars and black holes.
