Classic period
The Classic Period was from 250-900 A.D. Mayan civilization spread and grew to include more than 40 cities of 5,000 to 50,000 people each. The cities were elaborate and extravagant.
Many cities had grand buildings, including large stone pyramids, temples, and palaces. Some honored local kings. For example, in Palenque, a temple was built to honor their king Pacal.
