Greed and Blindness, The Consequences
The illegal trade of Opium benefited the Chinese corrupt officials personally, giving them more beneficial funds. Only later they realized China was having social uncompatibility and a major drug addiction which roared a turmoil in Chinese society. The Opium War happened due to Chinese's attempt to abolish all Opium trading activities. British waged war against China for causing the trading disruptment and causing European merchants to lose money. So consequentely, in response to China's decision, the British forces attacked China with military superiority and caused many casualties (aprox. 20,000), forcing China to accept defeat and call peace. China was forced to give their trading monopoly to British control, which also led to other foreign countries take possession of Chinese trading ports and effectively control them. This was a major Chinese decline.
The picture used in the poster is a historically reproduced painting, featuring defeated Chinese soldiers. The slogan relates to how greedy and selfish the currupt Chinese officials were. That is because they only cared about how they benefited personally from the Opium trade, disregarding at first it's effects on the society itself.
