The CORE wanted to accomplish this through nonviolence. One of the things they did was the Freedom Bus Rides. The Freedom Bus Rides would start in Washington D.C. and go deeper into the South. They would stop at every bus stop and the whites would go into the "Colored Only" section and vice versa. Violence started occurring  as they got deeper into the South. CORE members were beaten by Ku Klux Klan members. When they reached Jackson, Mississippi, they were all thrown into jail for "breaching peace." They stayed in jail for forty days and stayed committed to nonviolence. The Freedom Bus Rides made the U.S. Government make a law that banned discrimination.
