Shel Silverstine
Shel Silverstine was born into a Jewish family. At the age of 7 he started drawing. He grew up in Chicago. He went to Roosevelt High School, and then later went to the University of Illinois from which he was expelled. In 1953 he was drafted into the army. He served in Japan and Korea. His first creative literature job began when he started making cartoons for the Stars and Stripes magazine. His most famous works include A Light in The Attic and The Giver Tree.
