Transportation

During the 1850s, most Texas still rode horseback or wagons, pulled by horses mules or oxen. Sandbars, rafts and debris made steamboat traveling impossible on most rivers except for the rio grande. In
eastern Texas where there are large rivers, small boats could get up to 100 miles upriver in the spring.
