WHY DID THE VIKINGS GO ON RAIDS?

The Vikings raid to conquer new land, as they had outgrown their small portions of land. Because of the small amount of fertile land they own, they need to get more to plant more crops. They also raided to raise their social status in their home countries, and to get gold.
