The word silver comes from the Anglo-Saxon word seolfor. It's chemical symbol comes from the Latin word for silver, argentum.

Pure silver is used as electricity conductors, mirrors (with protective coating), used to be used for making coins. Now, sterling silver (92.5% silver) is used for jewelry, silverware, and other decorative objects.
