protoplanetary disk
*The temperature is high enough to
prevent condensation of water, ice, and
other substances into grains
*This results in the formation of rocky
planetesimals
*After these small planetesimals have
formed, runaway accretion occurs which
leads to the growth of larger
planetesimals
*This can last 10,000 to 100,000 years
