1. What was Hernán's lifespan?(when was he born/died)
Hernán was born in 1485 and died 12/2/1547. He was sixty two when he died. He had many family members/children; they are Don Martín Cortés, 2nd Marquis of the Valley of Oaxaca, Doña Maria Cortés, Doña Catalina Cortés, Doña Juana Cortės, Martín Cortés (son of doña Marina)

2. Why did Diego Velázquez put Hernán in jail?
Diego was the governor of Cuba and Hernán and he had become good friends. Then word got out that Hernán was going to overthrow Diego and be the governor. So to prevent that from happening, he put Hernán in jail just to be safe. Hernia escaped from jail twice.

3. What motivated Hernán to come to America?
Hernia was just a young boy when he had heard about this New World. Hernán was curious about this new place and wanted to see it. He had studying Latin when he decided to drop out and be come and explorer. He left at about 1510 to become an explorer.
