Messenger RNA, or mRNA, is created in the first step of DNA replication and protein synthesis. It resembles a strand of DNA, only it contains the opposite corresponding bases for that DNA strand. It is unique because it has the base "U," which replaces "T." It carries genes to the ribosomes where protein synthesis occurs.
