Gekko's extravagant lifestyle encouraged people like Bud Fox to follow in his footsteps. Fox did a lot of illegal things to reach the position he was in.

People like Gekko have a great influence on the world, and ultimately lowered the overall morality

The upper class of the 1920s, as portrayed in "The great Gatsby", was known for throwing extravagant parties, or showing off their wealth in another fashion.

This lead to people like Nick to search for this life style.
Many people in this period would succumb to the immoral ways of obtaining such wealth.
