- Prior to Pasteur's experiments on germs few doctors sanitized their equipment before surgeries.
- Pasteur's first trial of his rabies vaccine on humans was with a nine year old boy who had been bitten by a dog. Pasteur was not a licensed physician and did the procedure illegally.
- Pasteur helped the silk industry in 1865 by demonstrating that microbes were infecting silk worm eggs and spreading disease.
