72 children were selected and rated on a 5 point scale of how agressive they were, then placed in 3 subsets (control, non-agressive and experimental). They were then divided into groups of six according to gender and their rating. The control group was simply asked to play with a set of toys, inlcuding a doll named Bobo.
Results:
The non-agressive subset was asked to observe adults playing with some of the toys; the adults would play with a tinker toy set while the agressive or experimental adults would physically or verbally abuse the doll, such as kicking it, hitting it with a mallet, yelling at it or punching it in the face
