Predictions

Abigail Williams

John Proctor

I predict that Abigail will start to accuse everyone because of her behavior in Act 1. Although she tried to protect Betty, Abigail threw Tituba under the bus by telling everyone that Tituba was the one dancing and singing around the fire, performing witchcraft. Also, she accused John Proctor of having affairs with Abigail herself and she accuses Elizabeth Proctor of blackening her name around Salem and telling lies.

"She is blackening my name in the village! She is telling lies about me! She is a cold, sniveling woman, and you bend to her!" (Miller 43). -Abigail Williams

"I know how you clutched my back behind your house and sweated like a stallion whenever I come near! Or did I dream that? It’s she put me out, you cannot pretend it were you. I saw your face when she put me out, and you loved me then and you do now!" (Miller 42). -Abigail Williams

"She hates me, uncle, she must, for I would not be her slave. It’s a bitter woman, a lying, cold, sniveling woman, and I will not work for such a woman!" (Miller 36). -Abigail Williams

I predict that Proctor will either have an affair with Abigail, or accuse her of being a witch because he says that he sometimes thinks of her and he was getting mad at her for accusing him of having affairs with her.

"ABIGAIL: I have a sense for heat, John, and yours has drawn me to my window, and I have seen you looking up, burning in your loneliness. Do you tell me you’ve never looked up at my window?
PROCTOR: I may have looked up." (Miller 43).
