On April 17, 1961, 1400 Cuban exiles launched what became a botched invasion at the Bay of Pigs on the south coast of Cuba. Cuban leader deployed 20000 army units later that day for a counterattack and John F. Kennedy ordered an air umbrella but the B-26 jet was an hour late and the Cubans caught in and were able to shoot down the fighter jets and restrict the attack on them.
