Red Scare

During the 1950s, there was much concern over the threat of communism. An announcement by Senator Joseph McCarthy stated that communists had infiltrated the U.S. This initiated a frenzied hunt for communists, known as the Red Scare or McCarthyism. Hundreds of Hollywood writers and entertainers were falsely accused of being communists, which ultimately crippled their careers.
