Asoka was one of the greatest rulers ever. Asoka had a huge army. In his army he had about 9,000 war elephants! Asoka positioned 3 soldiers on each elephant during wars. Elephants could do things that humans couldn't. For example, elephants could run over soldiers. Additionally, they could break down enemy walls. Asoka eventually converted to Buddhism because he wanted a more peaceful life for himself and his people. He gave up wars of conquest and he united with other Buddhist countries. He was definitely a great emperor.
