Sunnis and Shiites

Sunnis
-Followed and believed that Muhammad is their prophet until he died then believed that Abu Bakr was the true successor
-Orthodox
-Believe that Al Mahdi will come in the future
-the majority of Muslims living in the Near and Middle East, whether Arabs, Turks, or Kurds, were Sunnis.

Shiites
-They believed that Ali, the son-in-law of Mohammad, was the leader after the death of Mohummad.
-They called their spiritual leader as imam
-Ithna'asharis: believe in 12 imams.
-Ismailis: believe in the living imams that descended from Mohummad ibn Ismail
