Endemic Plants and Animals

Over 6500 endemic plant species can be found in the ecosystem. An example of an endemic animal would be a reptile called, a dwarf gecko.

The hotspot is also noteworthy for its diminutive species, including the world’s smallest bird, the Bee Hummingbird and smallest snake, the Lesser Antillean Threadsnake.

Thirteen bird species have already gone extinct; one of those species brightly-feathered macaws.
